Child Exploitation

Local Safeguarding Children Boards in Berkshire have come together to tackle the criminal exploitation of children.

Children as young as 10 and sometimes even younger are being put in danger by people who are taking advantage of how vulnerable they are.

Are you concerned that a child is being exploited? Our new simple screening tool will help you.

What is the simple screening tool?

This tool is for anyone who works with children, including those who work in the voluntary sector. If you are worried that a child may be being exploited, this tool gives you a list of indicators to help you work it out and take appropriate action.

Often, children do not recognise themselves as victims, or that they are being groomed, and as a result disclosures of such abuse can be unlikely. Therefore, this indicator tool aids the identification of exploitation.

If you are worried that a child is in immediate danger dial 999.

In 2018 the Local Authority appointed a Team Manager for Child Exploitation who provides a dedicated resource to develop and progress work in relation to Child Exploitation.  If you wish to contact the Team Manager for Child Exploitation or find out more about becoming one of our CSE Champions the please email: becky.herron@reading.gov.uk.
